Volcano Level-of-Concern Code

Color	Volcano Status	Forecast
GREEN	The volcano is in a quiet, "dormant" state.	No eruption is anticipated.
YELLOW	Small local events are occurring and volcanic gassing increases.	An eruption is possible within a few weeks and may occur without warning.
ORANGE	Local earthquakes increase. A non-explosive eruption is possible. Extrusions are formed on lava cone or lava flow.	The eruption is in progress; an explosive eruption is possible within a few days and may occur without warning. The ash cloud is below 25,000 feet (about 7,500 meters) above sea level.
RED	Strong earthquakes are occurring and are detected by remote seismic stations. A strong explosive eruption is possible.	A strong explosive eruption is occurring or will be within 24 hours. The ash cloud height is at least 25,000 feet (about 7,500 meters) above sea level.
